Temperature Policy Recommendations
During the change of seasons, it is to the church's advantage to establish a consistent heating/cooling policy for the Sanctuary. We recommend a policy that is consistent from week to week and allows ample time for the effects of the temperature settings to penetrate the organ chamber space. This will allow the organ tuning to last for the longest period of time. Since organ pitch changes two cents in pitch per degree of temperature change, temperature control is absolutely essential to the success of the tuning.
Service Recommendations
Caring for a pipe organ need not be difficult or costly, if the service provided is competent, timely, and thorough. We recommend two service visits per year on most organs. These visits include a full tuning, keeping the temperaments clean and precise. We also check the mechanical functioning of the instrument.
Since we charge on a time-and-material basis, the church pays only for time spent and work done, plus a fair travel charge. If a repair is needed that exceeds the normal and usual cost for routine service, we obtain authorization before proceeding. We will never present the church with large, unanticipated bills for unauthorized services!
In almost every case, we find that servicing the organ regularly actually helps decrease the cost of care. Of course, we are also available when you need us for concerts and special occasions.
We are as close as the phone or e-mail.
